Correct running in techniques for new vehicles

2024.12.24

The running in of a vehicle is achieved through the friction between the interlocking parts of various components, making the interlocking surfaces smoother and the coordination tighter. The running in of the engine requires a driving distance of approximately 3000 kilometers; The running in of the gearbox mainly involves the running in between the gears, which generally requires 5000 kilometers; The break in time for brakes is approximately 400 kilometers. Vehicles that have undergone good running in will have more power, fuel efficiency, lower noise, and more agile handling than before. The correct running in techniques for a new vehicle are as follows:

1. Smooth start, slow acceleration

Start smoothly in low gear, accelerate slowly, move gently, and avoid driving with sudden acceleration, sudden braking, sudden turns, etc.

2. Avoid excessive engine speed

It is generally recommended that gasoline engines do not exceed a maximum speed of 2000 revolutions per minute during the break in period, while diesel engines are recommended to run at 1000-1500 revolutions per minute. High engine speeds can increase engine load and cause significant damage to the engine. During the running in period of a new vehicle, the economic speed of the engine may vary depending on the power adjusted by the engine manufacturer, resulting in different engine speeds. It is recommended to drive at a speed of no more than 80Km/h during the break in period.

3. Do not maintain one gear for a long time

When driving, it is necessary to shift gears in a timely manner so that each gear can be adjusted and run on various road conditions.

4. Do not drive with heavy loads

During the running in period of a vehicle, excessive load can also damage the vehicle, so the lighter the vehicle during the running in period, the better, and do not load heavy objects.

5. Do not drive for too long

When a new vehicle starts to run in, it usually needs to be stopped after a few hours of driving, and should not be driven all day, even for long distances.

6. Try to avoid emergency braking as much as possible

Emergency braking not only impacts the braking system during running in, but also increases the impact load on the chassis and engine. Therefore, do not use emergency braking during the initial 300 kilometers of driving. If there is a sudden situation, try to step on the clutch first and then on the brake to reduce the impact on the engine.
